What on earth does this term mean?
If you sell - you’re just a salesman.
If you engineer — you’re an engineer.
I bet Geogre Carlin would make a great joke about it, but really Im wondering what is this role about?
- codegeek 3y agoSales Engineer role exists in companies that sell complex B2B Software usually to Enterprises where you have things like implementation, customizations, integrations and other things to do with the product before it is fully functioning. The job of a Sales Engineer is to get involved during the Sales process with the other team members (typically Sales Dev Rep SDR and Account Executive AE) and help the prospective customers with their requirements around the implementation/integration areas. If you are technical enough or have a dev background but don't want to write code necessarily AND you enjoy selling, it is a great role to be in .
- k310 3y agoThe role used to be called systems engineer, but the HR gods deemed otherwise. Systems engineering is mainly the design, integration and maintenance of complex systems. (Wikipedia). Those tasks are part of the engineering side of sales teams, but not the entirety of the job. A lot involves making the customer aware of a product's capabilities, and so on.
