Qualcomm to Take on Apple Silicon Chips with Snapdragon X Series for PCs

- laweijfmvo 3y agoI know, right, but at least something seems different this time? > Snapdragon X chips will use the Qualcomm Oryon CPU, which is built on the chip technology that it got when it purchased Nuvia. Founded by ex-Apple chip designers, Nuvia designed custom Arm-based chips that are expected to bring Apple silicon-like performance to PCs with improved power and efficiency.
- almatabata 3y agoAt this point it does not necessarily need to beat apple silicon to become a success. If you can get decent performance with great battery life a lot of people would become interested. A lot of developers would like an ARM64 laptop or desktop as their workstation that is not an apple device. When looking at this though product i have to wonder for how long they will support it. When you look at their mobile releases you notice that they cut the support after a few years. They support OEM if they pay them enough money but in this case who would pay them for this support? Would a lenovo pay them to support the firmware longer? If you buy this as a first adopter you take the risks of qualcomm pulling support earlier than you would like.
