They should be careful with the term "Traffic Calming" as that is a term that describes using red lights and obstacles to make people stop more frequently and supposedly drive slower through the city. Many cities are doing this, despite the fact that it wastes fuel and time, and doesn't really increase safety. It just frustrates people and makes them drive like maniacs.
This is literally the opposite of Traffic Calming.
- JambalayaJim 3y agoBy what metric are you asserting it doesn’t increase safety? My experience has been the opposite. Roads which have traffic calming measures introduced are significantly more pleasant to bike on. The more streets this is on the better - it saves me time and stress.
- CamperBob2 3y agoWell, that's nice that it works for you.
- bobbylarrybobby 3y agoThe whole point of traffic calming is that if you drive like a maniac you damage your car. And slowing cars down is inherently safe, simply by virtue of how speed affects fatality rates. A given car, when parked, can't kill anyone, and going 100mph it will kill just about anyone it hits, and it's continuous and monotonous in between.
- Already__Taken 3y agonice in isolation but depends on where it's parked it could well make it way more likely for the next car to kill someone.
