Ironic that it requires the use of a Google-made phone to run a de-Googled version of Android. GrapheneOS is a great OS; I was surprised at just how much longer the battery lasted when the parts of the O/S that are constantly phoning home (as well as listening to messages from the mothership) are removed.
- cf100clunk 3y agoI appreciate that it appears ironic but the purpose of GrapheneOS has always been to focus tightly on just Pixel phones. As you say, the performance difference is pleasantly surprising.
- mikece 3y agoI read somewhere that the reason Pixel phones are supported is because the same ability for an end user to upgrade or downgrade Android version also allows installing a different (although mostly similar) O/S as well. I don't recall the details (eg: was it from Reddit?) or if it was actually accurate.
- ThePowerOfFuet 3y agoBecause of the security architecture of the phone, including the Secure Enclave.
- OfSanguineFire 3y agoWhat other phones have the same secure enclave support and allow end-users to re-lock the bootloader after installing the Android of their choice?
