I have to admit that it has become strange seeing such projects costing only single or double digit millions. Every time I read that some new interesting power plant is to be built the cost is usually high triple digit millions or actual billions.
Is it mostly because this is Croatia? If so then why cant we have similar cheaper construction across rest of the Europe? I feel like construction projects have their costs vastly inflated the further you go to the western side.
- foota 3y ago16 MW isn't very much.
- toomuchtodo 3y agoOn its own, no, but there are various grids (Estonia, France, and South Australia come to mind) where they’re firing about 50-80MW consistently of fossil gas generation for grid stability/inertia/etc. If non fossil generation can contribute towards destroying demand for fossil providers of these services (along with utility scale battery storage and synchronous condensers) at an economical cost, it sounds like an easy win.
- Muromec 3y agoLife is nicer and more expensive in Western Europe, so labor intensive things are more expensive just because of that.
- manmal 3y agoSuch projects are often run with the help of German companies, so I wouldn’t automatically assume labor cost makes all the difference here. Croatian wages have also caught up and are roughly 50+% that of Germany.
