What the FIRE movement gets wrong
- oldpersonintx 3y agoFIRE was mostly a good-times fantasy most claims of net worth I read from bloggers were actually projections... on top of mostly "projected" wealth, you have the ridiculous assumptions about cost of living I assume 95% of FIRE bloggers got the year of backpacking alone in Thailand out of their systems, realized they were spending 5x as fast as they projected, and just quietly went back to work why did this movement even assume it was everyone's dream to live like a pauper, let your resume rot, and disconnect from all social circles that revolve around work? is backpacking in Thailand really that awesome?
