Honestly I have gotten so use to reading the decompiled source of code in IntelliJ to determine how to enable / disable items it is second nature. Given the expressiveness and power behind the system that is a trade off I am willing to take. To a certain extent I think it is a trade off of using a tool that has so many permutations. What you are saying is certainly justified.
