Skimming through the site, the magic behind this is that the fan spins at a constant speed, but the pitch of the blades can be modulated at very low frequencies - positively and negatively. I had to look carefully at the .GIF on this page to have the ah-ha moment when it made sense. http://www.rotarywoofer.com/howitworks.htm http://www.rotarywoofer.com/howitworks.htm
- iancmceachern 3y agoTotally, for me the ah ha moment was when I realized it was like the collective on a helicopter
- Already__Taken 3y agomore like variable pitch on a plane or boat. the swashplate on a helicopter varies the pitch around the rotation.
- rob74 3y agoThat page also answers the obvious question of why the fan thingie is needed and why these frequencies can't be achieved with a traditional loudspeaker membrane.
