I think you're missing the context here that CSGO was just replaced with CS2, and CS2 is an entirely new engine (it's Source 2 based whereas CSGO was still Source 1) So this is a switch from a DX9 engine from ~15 years ago to a modern, Vulkan-focused actively developed engine.
