You make it sound way tougher and more expensive than it is. If you can afford to buy black market fungi, you can afford the equipment and time required to grow your own. I mean the uncle ben tek is what, $20? $40? in materials? And that's with spores leftover in case you somehow fail your cleanliness check. I don't do it anymore, but when I did grow them I had exactly 1 failure out of at least 15 grows, and I was cognizant of the fact I was cutting corners. There is less luck involved than you let on.
