  There’s a red suica machine at the airport also. Never heard about a shortage. Possibly the person did not know where to buy them.

    No, it's actually out of sale. Makes no sense but it is. Welcome Suica(the red ones) and PASMO Passport cards sold at airports are supposedly still available.

      That's what I'm talking about. Maybe not that helpful for a local, although they do last a month, so could get you by in a pinch.
