sadly this is indicative of the mindset of IT. instead of fixing the problem (buy more 3COM PCMCIA cards), just develop a bureaucracy and inefficient culture built around preserving the broken system. complete with secret police and witch-hunts. i'd have like to see how much company time (in $s) was wasted on the "investigation" (witch-hunt) and the extra service calls due to bad cards instead of buying proper working equipment.
