America has been exclusively electing irresponsible assholes to public office for the last 60 years though. It is the last nation you would want to hold up as an example for anything, no matter what your agenda, left or right. There are plenty of great public education, public health, and public pension systems implemented in the world. That none of them are in the US has nothing to do with the idea of it, but rather who was in charge of getting it done (i.e. ultimately, the American population itself).
