Confessions of a Necromancer
- PaulHoule 3y agoNo, the dead things that a necromancer works on were once alive. That's not true about computers at all. Instead, computers have a kind of pseudo-life.
- foxyv 3y agoI've been a practicing computer necromancer for over a decade and I can clarify this. What you are doing is extracting the souls and the true names of the coders who have worked on the code and breathing new life into them by sacrificing a part of your own. It's like watering a garden of long dead things in hopes that something dormant may re-appear. Part of the ritual is to chant the key phrases: "Why did they do this?", "Who thought this was a good idea?" and "This is my code! What was I thinking!" There are five key arts to a ritual computer necromancer. Refactoring, The Un-Read Documentation, Diagrams of the Damned, The Empty Wiki Page of Hopeful Title, and The Ritual of Starting the Whole Dang Thing From Scratch.
