Living in a Country on the Brink

- catlover76 3y ago> Jo is the holder of a newly minted degree in English literature from one of the top universities in Laos. But the 22-year-old, who graduated only weeks ago, says he already feels "hopeless". Dude, this wouldn't necessarily be an economically advantageous position in a first world country, let alone Laos.
- totetsu 3y agoHello catlover76, Your comment about the economic value of an English literature degree certainly applies in certain contexts, but I think there's a much deeper story here that's being overlooked. When we apply Western-centric narratives to situations in countries like Laos, we risk simplifying complex issues into easily digestible soundbites. This not only does a disservice to our understanding but also to the people living those realities. I would encourage us all to try to see the world through a more empathetic and nuanced lens. Learning about the unique challenges faced by people in different countries can offer invaluable perspectives that go beyond our local or national narratives. Let's not limit our understanding of the world by failing to look beyond the surface. There's so much more to gain by delving deeper.
