Wonder if this is what verda space can really accelerate at?
- lucubratory 3y agoThere are probably manufacturing benefits of vacuum welding for some niche use cases, but it's a thing that happens with vacuum, not microgravity. Because it's cheaper to build a volume under high vacuum here on Earth than it is to send equipment up to space, that means it can't be an economic reason to go to space. It's more that it's one of those "If you're already in space, this probably has uses" things, rather than a "This is going to return on the investment of going to space" thing like Avatar's unobtainium or Andy Weir's special fiber optics.
