The man behind FAKEGRIMLOCK
- jakmas 15y agoArticle of total awesomeness. Several great take-aways. Well done super dino robot.
- FAKEGRIMLOCK 15y agoYOU WELCOME. OR ELSE!
- FAKEGRIMLOCK 15y agoME, GRIMLOCK, ANSWER QUESTIONS IF ASK HERE OR ON ARTICLE. UNLESS QUESTIONS STUPID OR BORING.
- cgshaw 15y agoWhy is it so difficult for people to "get you?" You're clearly a bright a dinosaur and usually trying to give us a kick in the ass or some helpful advice. I always find it hysterical that so many people giggle at you and think you're a joke.
- FAKEGRIMLOCK 15y agoSOME PEOPLE AFRAID OF TRUTH. NOT READY TO CONFRONT OWN FAIL. OTHER PEOPLE HAVE NO SOUL. NOT READY FOR ANYTHING "SILLY." SOME PEOPLE JUST DUMB. ABOUT 80% OR SO.
- jakmas 15y agoI understand the feelings toward the midwest, but you also made a reference that its not like the "coast" do you think there are other areas that are well suited for startups, such as boston, NYC, or Atlanta?
- FAKEGRIMLOCK 15y agoFIND CENTERS OF GRAVITY. THEY PULL TALENT, MONEY, SMASH TOGETHER UNTIL EXPLODE. NEW YORK. BOSTON. VALLEY. USUALLY HAVE THIS COMBO: 1. VCS/MENTORS FROM EARLIER BIG EXITS 2. LOCAL COLLEGES PRODUCE SUPPLY OF YOUNG TECHIES 3. LOCAL BIG TECH COMPANIES FEED YOUNG TECHIES UNTIL READY TO START UP 4. HAVE DENSE URBAN CENTER WHERE EASY TO MEET FUTURE COFOUNDERS, PEERS DC AREA MATCH THIS, HAVE EMERGING TECH SCENE. THAT WHY GRIMLOCK THERE. NOT SURE ABOUT ATLANTA.
- danielharan 15y agoFG apparently can't post here anymore. Try Twitter?
- dlf 15y agoWhy can't FG reply here?
- danielharan 15y agoGOOD QUESTION
- cgshaw 15y agoI really appreciated the candidness on getting out of the midwest. I love home. Born and raised near Kansas City, Missouri and went to school at Missouri and Iowa. But the resources and mindset aren't there yet to build a consumer-web startup. Zaarly is the best example and yet a large chunk of its team is on the coasts. Hard to tell the truth when you're a "nobody" as FAKEGRIMLOCK mentioned. But at the mythical FAKEGRIMLOCK is become easier to say what's on your mind.
- FAKEGRIMLOCK 15y agoIF SERIOUS ABOUT BE ON FIRE, MUST GO WHERE FUEL IS. MIDWEST NOT FULL OF FUEL. MOSTLY FULL OF FARMERS.
- nmelo 15y agoAll of the above?
- FrancescoRizzi 15y agoYou have plenty of (silent and not-so-silent) supporters. Keep up the AWESOMESAUCE!
- FAKEGRIMLOCK 15y agoOR ELSE!
- FrancescoRizzi 15y agoWell.. I'll bite.. care to explain the downvote on my comment, dear <comments.current.parent.downvotes[0].author> ? Thanks
- vruzz 15y agothe question answers itself: all of the above.
- murdockian 15y agohe' s a brand in himself. Expect to get Fake Grimlock action figures in stores in 5-10 years
- danielharan 15y agoAnyone with the 3D skills to draw one? I'd print one out in a Makerbot :)
- FAKEGRIMLOCK 15y agoME, GRIMLOCK, SUPPORT THIS IDEA. MAKE HAPPEN!
- sethbannon 15y agoCan someone explain the downvoting of FAKEGRIMLOCK's comments? I find them insightful, substantive, and hilarious, but is some HN norm being stepped on?
- danielharan 15y agoThis is very puzzling. Also - why isn't this front page yet?
- sethbannon 15y agoIt was frontpage and trending up. It must be getting flagged quite a bit. Very curious.
- cgshaw 15y agoAnd now that you pointed it out, the trend has reversed... what in the world is going on here? EDIT - I'd also like to point out that the headline changed. Is that a typical practice on HN? I don't think my original headline was anything inflammatory or off-point.
- jsnell 15y agoI didn't downvote, but novelty accounts are not exactly a part of the local culture. I doubt there's any insightful or substantial point that can only be made by writing in caps with bad grammar. Yes, it might make you think that it's a dry and humorless environment. But at least it's not overrun by 20 copies of CaptainObvious or JokeExplainer.
- henryaym 15y agohttp://projectgoats.com http://projectgoats.com enough said.
- ckurdziel 15y agoIt's really a shame that FG's comments were downvoted here... Can anyone shed some light on what happened?
- Pent 15y agoFAKEGRIMLOCK seems very relevant to this site as he created a brand out of nothing and I find most of his short comments insightful. So the interview is a nice read on his tactics even if it's a bit shallow. I just hope we don't have tons of clones of his persona. It works only once or twice.
- wmougayar 15y ago@fakegrimlock is as genuine as can be. His advice is golden and right on. Just accept him and his persona as they are.
