China's First 28nm Lithography Tool to Be Delivered This Year
- ggm 3y ago90nm to 28nm in one jump. I'm guessing future refinement will be a nasty pareto curve of cost to shrinkage, it gets harder. But still: good on them for showing progress.
- RetroTechie 3y agoThe very latest nodes like 7/5nm are probably also a case of diminishing returns? Extreme research effort & setup costs w/ lower yields. Unless fabricating big IC's with many billions of transistors, older nodes like 28nm should be fine for maaany IC designs & their applications. A big question will be how fast this company (Shanghai Micro Electronics Equipment) can build these machines. But this is China - reproducing things has never been its weakness.
