A New Discovery Just Upended What We Know About Stonehenge's Mysterious Origin

- defrost 3y agoGreat Britain was once entirely covered with thick glacial ice, so much so that the entire landmass was pressed down much lower than it sits today. The relevance here is that UK is littered with massive rocks that don't match their local area geology (such as the Stonehenge rocks). Glacial erratics https://www.antarcticglaciers.org/glacial-geology/glacial-landforms/glacial-depositional-landforms/glacial-erratics https://www.antarcticglaciers.org/glacial-geology/glacial-la... This broadens the possible back story on the stones - it's possible that all the bluestones were hauled from Wales across 140 miles to the Stonehenge site and the alter stone "stood out" amoungst those bluestones as it was an erractic carried there from elsewhere by glacial action. It's possible that all the bluestones were erratics that had been dropped within a short distance of the Stonehenge site and the alter stone was one that came from much further north ... It's a genuinely tricky question to resolve.
