at that point, why not just do FIDO2 with a YubiKey or something? eg https://www.ajfriesen.com/yubikey-ssh-key/ https://www.ajfriesen.com/yubikey-ssh-key/ as long as you don't lose the YubiKey or the backup YubiKeys you're good.
