Very interesting, would this be related to Acousto-optic modulators - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acousto-optic_modulator https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acousto-optic_modulator, which I believe can do this using a crystal and sound waves. Will have to read their paper.
