Show HN: Cut back alcohol in a warm and supportive app
I've always been a heavy drinker and tried multiple time to cut back alcohol, but failed every time.
As a mobile developer, I had the idea to create a dedicated app to track alcohol consumption in quick and fun way.
That's why I've developed Drylendar, an iOS app translated in French (I'm French) and English that allows people to track their drink every day in a beautiful calendar.
To help people staying motivated, I've added medals to unlock and possibility to add friends to share calendars and positive energy.
My app is available on App Store for 10 days, and it's been 215 days that I didn't drink alcohol at all, I've never felt healthier & happier!
- johng 3y agoNot just an app, requires a paid monthly subscription. Sigh.
- francoisboulais 3y ago1) "an app" doesn't mean "free" 2) you can use 90% of Drylendar for free, actually 90% of the users who use it daily didn't pay.
- Obscurity4340 3y agoThe secret is naltrexone. Talk to your doctor. Sinclair Method. No app can help with the wiring issue.
- francoisboulais 3y agoI can't tell for everybody, and indeed my app probably doesn't help people with hard alcoholism. But it actually helps people who want to track alcohol to control the consumption, results are here.
- Obscurity4340 3y agoIt can actually help with that, counting drinks is an important aspect of Sinclair. If you make it super easy/intuitive with widgets and such and have the privacy "Checkmark" meaning "no data collected", you got a paid Sinclair method assistant app. Add in a dose- drink timer/alarm (90 minutes) If I think of anything else I'll DM you or comment further.
- Obscurity4340 3y agoAlso, try to avoid subscriptions unless its literally like 0.50/month and there's an option to buy it out at like $10 or whatever
- Obscurity4340 3y agoAlso, you should still try to appeal to AUD since its arguably far more ubiquitous and somewhat less life-threatening than straight-up hard-A alcoholism.
- quickthrower2 3y agoI am on low dose naltrexone (3.5mg instead of maybe 50mg) for fatigue and I swear it has reduced my desire for alcohol alot. I wasn’t a heavy drinker but now I bearly drink. A beer at home to wind down now feels like a chore!
- Obscurity4340 3y agoI kinda want to experiment with using it maybe lower dosage for other activities or things I find—let's say, overly compelling...
- Obscurity4340 3y agoKombucha is also very satiating in terms of the appetite for drinking. Hits almost the same spots
- kinduff 3y agoGlad to see more apps in this space. You app has a nice design! I've been using "I am sober" [1] for 194 days (I installed when I started getting sober) and I really like it. What I really like about the "I am sober" app is that the community section groups you up with people that have the same milestone as you (1 day, 1 week, 15 days, etc), which allows you to not be alone during this processes. If you're on your way to sobriety, make sure to surround yourself with people that are doing the same, otherwise is going to be really hard.
