Opinion: PayPal dark patterns are borderline fraud
In my business account, there are two types of "faucets" that siphon money from my account.
1. Subscriptions
2. Recurring Payments
Neither are present on the overview, and finding automatic payments really takes some digging around in the site.
I'm a middle-aged dude, and cannot imagine what it must be like for a senior citizen that is even less familiar with tech to figure this out.
I wonder just how many millions or billions dollars worth of extra transactions have flowed through PayPal because of this very thing.
- shortcake27 3y agoIMHO the most fraudulent thing PayPal does is trick people into thinking they have a bank account by making it look, feel, and behave like a bank account. When in reality your PayPal balance is more akin to Nintendo Coins or Fortnite V-Bucks. Difference being that Epic is less likely to close your account and take your balance away from you without recourse, something that PayPal does to thousands of people each year.
- jzombie 3y agoMakes me curious what percentage of those closed accounts had some form of automatic payments set up. I don't know how relevant that would even be, but I would be curious to see it.
