It sucks, but families have to temporarily split up all of the time for the sake of the income to the point that a father flies to another continent and works and sends money back home and doesn't see their wife/children for years.
There are really good developers out there right now that have been unemployed for a ridiculously long time due to the shit market.
I wouldn't want to tell you what to do and I don't know enough about your situation to make an informed suggestion, but keep your mind open to the possibility that your best option right now is staying with your company, moving yourself across the country (maybe rent a cheap room somewhere close to the office), and keep looking for a better job in the interim.
- throwaway269285 3y agoYeah this is something we're now talking about. My wife and I were initially quite resistant to the idea, but the more rejections I get, the more amenable I become to it. One big thing keeping me from splitting up like this is that I don't really have a job where I can do a job search and do my work at the same time. My job is stupidly demanding. I'm concerned if I do something like this I'll just never be able to move towards a more sustainable situation. The other alternative we're looking at is moving in with my parents for a while. They live close by and have room. I'm not sure how much it'll impact my job search once I'm officially unemployed
