ICE, CBP, Secret Service All Illegally Used Smartphone Location Data
- fsflover 3y agoI'm glad I have hardware kill switches on my phone, so I'm not tracked when I need it.
- RcouF1uZ4gsC 3y agoI personally don’t have an issue with the government using commercially available data. I do have issues with certain data being commercially available. But if the data can be bought for money legally, the government investigative and intelligence agencies should have access to it. If we don’t like this, we should address how this data is collected and sold, not try to limit government access to it.
- sneak 3y agoI would agree in theory, but you forget: private companies exploiting this data don't use it to engage in parallel construction and violate human rights to privacy. Law enforcement organizations can and will do this. The same data, in different hands, causes much different scales of damage to people.
- themoonisachees 3y agoThe argument is that even if private companies aren't committing atrocities, they still should not be able to own this data to begin with.
