The Pixel 8 Pro introduces an impractical new sensor you get to pay for
- PaulHoule 3y agoLike what, the 5 people who are going to buy a Pixel Pro? Outside of people who read sites like HN the brand awareness of Pixel is hard to tell from zero. Somebody who knows enough that a Pixel exists understand exactly why you shouldn't buy an iPhone instead.
- eternityforest 3y agoI absolutely love the idea. More sensors and IO is the main thing I hope to see in future phones. Like, I'm still annoyed there's no AI powered raman spectrometers in phones telling us where the pollution is, or radiation sensors, UV index detection(Preferably with UVC to catch wrongly installed germicidal lights), etc. Laser distance sensing would be amazing, I wouldn't be surprised if we could even find avalanche victims with radar or at least see studs in the wall by now. I don't actually plan to get the pixel 8 pro, I think I will get the regular pixel 8, but the temp sensor might be the start of a new direction of including more sensors.
