- iwanttocomment 3y agoNet Neutrality was gone for five years and... nothing happened? At all? We can talk about the misdeeds of software platforms like Facebook or X, but has there actually been any quantifiable real harm generated by the repeal of Net Neutrality regulation since 2018?
- Mountain_Skies 3y agoMost complaints revolve around mobile service, which IIRC, was never subject to NN in the first place.
- wmf 3y agoIt wasn't permanently gone; ISPs know that NN will come back if they misbehave. ISPs are also raking in money from peering extortion that nobody mentions.
- mouse_ 3y agoI could be wrong, but from what I understand, net neutrality means I can use my connection how I see fit without certain content, websites, or apps being paywalled by my provider. With this understanding, I will not have net neutrality until I can use my phone as a mobile hotspot without paying for a more "premium" package. I should be able to use my bits as I see fit. This is where my benchmark currently sits, and I eagerly await progress towards it.
- tannhaeuser 3y agoWhat telecom giants? Isn't the problem more, like, Facebook/WA/Insta and Google/YT with their vertical integration (surfaces, ads, telemetry, endpoints) and the ones benefiting from Telecoms being restricted in their offerings of equivalent services on their networks?
