X stops showing headlines because Musk thinks it will make posts look better
- jauntywundrkind 3y agoTwitter used to be a place for those who were wired in to get exposed to a ton of information. I have a pocket hypothesis that perhaps these folks were the patient 2, patient 3, patient 4s of social media. The wired in folk would get exposed to all sorts of stuff on twitter and forward along to other networks. There was an article just yesterday saying social media traffic is way down. This will almost certainly drop traffic to media sites inbound from X. But the potential knock on effect of making people on X not actually aware of or seeing the news being shared in most cases: that has huge potential to damped the total traffic flows. These early adopters lose a huge amount of the ambient awareness they'd otherwise be gaining. Headlines aren't always the greatest, but de-informationising your platform is a crazy bold step. I liked being on the cresting edge of news, and X is saying it is no longer a place to plug in & get that. Wild.
