Apple Warns of Newly Exploited iOS 17 Kernel Zero-Day
- moritzwarhier 3y agoWhat really pisses me of about this is that iOS never shows any timely notification to me about updates and does not update automatically, despite the setting being turned on and the phone even being charged overnight. I had skipped the 17 upgrade until today but it was the same with the recent 16 patch update and also with the macOS updates. Why? Does this mean my devices are all compromised, or is Apple not able or unwillig to roll out this security fix as soon as it is available?
- 8fingerlouie 3y agoiOS (and iPadOS, MacOS) has different types of patches. Besides major versions, there are the normal point updates, and Rapid Security Responses [0]. Major versions will never auto update, and point updates will slowly roll out, and may take up to 4 weeks [1], and Rapid Security Responses are rolled out instantly. The last Rapid Security Response patch was iOS 16.5.1(a) on July 12th[2] [0]:https://support.apple.com/en-us/102657 https://support.apple.com/en-us/102657 [1]:https://www.macrumors.com/2022/03/30/apple-explains-why-ios-auto-updates-later/ https://www.macrumors.com/2022/03/30/apple-explains-why-ios-...
