If the world gets partitioned into several "separate internets", it's a net loss for everyone. Having a Western internet, a Chinese internet, a Russian internet, etc will inevitably stifle people's ability to learn new skills, explore the world outside their home countries, and meet people with different perspectives.

Between telegram for Russian speakers (and everyone else I think it has more users than Twitter), WeChat, Facebook, etc. There are different places different internet denizens go that's regionally specific. Then there's targeted advertising. The stuff Instagram tells me to look at that's in Russian is very different from things in English. I think what the future will bring is only a narrowing of the sharing pipe. But it's unlikely that the pipe is as wide as we think it is simply because there's so much content that is essentially walled off from others because of language and culture.
