languages do not exist in isolation if I store sql with a column definition that stipulates that the value must be an int between 1 and 3...what difference does it make if I accidentally create a corresponding variable with the value "fred"? it will never be persisted furthermore, you can run in to even more confusion with a language type that is not properly aligned with the database type...which one wins? the db obviously, since language values not aligned with database definitions will never be persisted
