- marssaxman 3y agoThis is good. I've been working on getting my head around something similar. The idea of progress toward a sustainable civilization informed most major and many minor decisions through my adult life. Realizing that it was not going to happen, that humanity is simply running headlong into catastrophe, left me with a heavy weight of despair and a feeling of failure. I still don't really know what to do with my life, now that its major organizing principle has become useless, but this author's conclusion aligns with where I've been going: if nothing you do is going to affect the outcome, then you should probably stop worrying about it. Just enjoy what's in front of you while it's still here; the chaos will arrive soon enough.
