"Stealing" is a bit of an overreach.
This is like restricting Github license seats to a single office location, or Amazon forcing you to read Kindle books in a 5 km radius from your household.
- alex_lav 3y agoTrying to take something you didn’t pay for certainly seems like stealing? You can rationalize it how you want, but it is what it is.
- manuelabeledo 3y agoBut they did pay for it. And the service already detects how many screens are in use, so no one is going around that limitation either. Streaming services are adding geographical limits, i.e. one can only stream from a single household. That does not mean that customers weren't paying in the first place.
- alex_lav 3y ago> But they did pay for it If both parties paid for a service, why share a password? Because one party didn't pay for it.
- manuelabeledo 3y ago> If both parties paid for a service, why share a password? Services like Netflix allow watching content in more than one screen.
- alex_lav 3y ago> Services like Netflix allow watching content in more than one screen. This isn't what password sharing is in reference to. I get it. You want to share your netflix password with 10 of your friends so your friends don't have to pay. Too bad.
- manuelabeledo 3y ago> This isn't what password sharing is in reference to. But it is. I could easily set up a system to share the same Netflix accounts across apartments in a building, and they could do absolutely nothing because a) they wouldn't have the technical means to know what's going on, and b) it is absolutely, one hundred percent, legal. Where do you set the limits, exactly? Friends, close family, single household? Kid goes to uni and wants to watch Netflix using their parents account, is that "stealing"? Regardless, the mere fact that you would call this "stealing" when the streaming company is being compensated already, is laughable. Yeah, I'll proudly "steal" from these bloodsuckers.
- alex_lav 3y ago> Yeah, I'll proudly "steal" from these bloodsuckers. As long as we're on the same page that you're advocating for stealing a service, you can internally justify it however you want.
