When most EVs have ranges comparable their ICE counterparts then people will start worrying about efficiency. For the moment the marginal cost per unit distance for EVs is so much higher than ICE that it isn't something that anyone need consider. When the alternative is another EV instead of an ICE car then people will start caring about efficiency.
