It probably unlikely but your discomfort might be due to carpal tunnel - usually it’s numbness and tingling in fingers though, but it might be worth getting it checked out if it’s causing you significant discomfort/other issues. I actually put my thumb under the laptop so I actually have a pincer grip going on. This might be because I don’t use my laptop at a desk. I usually actually sit it on my lap. So thumb goes under the laptop and then my index and middle fingers do the scrolling etc.
