I think the 5% happens but is rarer than 5.5%. Maybe we need to negotiate better but amongst all my friend circle 5.5 seems the norm.

- jackcosgrove 3y agoYou are right, I checked and 5.5% appears to be the national average now. It used to be 6%. 5% happens where prices are higher. Redfin offers a 1.5% listing fee, and lowers that to 1% if you buy and sell. However you'll still be expected to pay the typical local buyer's agent commission.
