Meta Floats Charging $14 a Month for Ad-Free Instagram or Facebook
- dotcoma 3y agoCan’t wait! ;)
- retrocryptid 3y agoWhy would people want to buy data about users that aren't seeing ads? I guess they see ads on other sites and fb cookies tell you what demographic the end users are in. Still... seems weird.
- dotcoma 3y agoOur data gets sold many times every day, I am afraid…
- ahartmetz 3y agoBut the real money maker will be showing ads to these premium users with their buying power...
- vntok 3y agoIt's priced in the $14.
- ahartmetz 3y agoMust be, because average ad revenue per US user and month seems to be ~$20. Edit: corrected year to month
- vntok 3y agoThe population segment that skews the average up is almost certainly not the same as the segment that will pay for this. In fact I strongly suspect that people who say "I'm immune to ads so I won't pay to remove them" are the ones who skew the monthly revenue average up.
- angmarsbane 3y agoThere will still be ads but they'll be in the form of sponsored content, embedded ads like when a movie only has GM vehicles.
- londons_explore 3y agoI can recommend 'revanced manager' which will patch both fb and insta to remove all ads and optionally a bunch of other annoyances.
- tetris11 3y agoDo it. My gf stopped using Facebook once it became an ad cesspit, but still uses Instagram because at least there's some value there. Switching to ad-free for a paid model, whilst ramping up the ads in the free model (to coerce a switch), should be just the level of corposhittery she would need to stop using the platform altogether.
- lm28469 3y agoWill it removed sponsored content too? Because between good ol ads and sponsored content that's a good 50% of what's in my feed
