CDC draft recommends certain people use antibiotic pill after sex
- anigbrowl 3y agoNot sure why they're being so circumspect here: it's gay-bi men. STIs have skyrocketed in the gay community because condom use has gone way down, a fact that probably also contributed to the recent monkeypox scare. Having grown up while the AIDS epidemic was in full swing, this seems like madness to me. I've always considered myself supportive of the LGBT community, but if someone is into being sexually promiscuous then the risks of contracting a disease are just higher, and one owes it to oneself and one's partners to minimize that risk. I do not understand the mentality of preferring retroactive use of a pill over prophylaxis. https://www.aidsmap.com/news/may-2016/american-gay-mens-use-condoms-has-been-falling-decade-regardless-serosorting-or-prep https://www.aidsmap.com/news/may-2016/american-gay-mens-use-...
- superchroma 3y agoI would guess because that would pour petrol on an existing fire of prejudice against gay people as somehow inherently diseased and filthy. We just saw with monkeypox not long ago a scene with average commuters in Spain being unconcerned about casual exposure to a man who had it because they thought it was a gays-only disease.
