Well, here we go. AI fraud is going to escalate things to an unthinkable level. If you thought people generating phone numbers to spam-call you with dubious "pharmacy" offers was bad, it just seems like things are going to get worse.
- runjake 3y agoI wager it'll be the same as always, just with some new techniques, and the sky will not fall.
- fnimick 3y agoSure, the ability to duplicate trusted voices and faces are just "new techniques" and will not lead to increased fraud whatsoever. I would like to live in your world.
- laweijfmvo 3y agoI mean, you used to just be able to call/email and ask someone for their password because who would possibly lie about something like that? But we all (most of us) learned that all calls are junk, all emails are scams. Soon enough all non-in-person/internet interactions will be assumed junk. Could be a good thing?
- fnimick 3y agoI mean, not great to mean I can't call my parents up and talk to them, eh?
- runjake 3y agoThe first half is correct. Nobody said it wouldn't lead to increased fraud. Every new generation of malicious tactic does until human and technological countermeasures[1] catch up. It's certainly not going to "escalate things to an unthinkable level", however. And we do live in the same world, a world where some new major technological advancement happens, and some technophobic portion of the audience gasps and claims the sky is falling. They said it about newspapers, home computers, about the Internet, about smartphones, about AI image creation, AI chatbots, and about AGI. And while it creates challenges, the sky never falls. Heck, there's even a Twitter account[2] that humorously documents it throughout history. 1. I feel the need to emphasize this before the next comment insinuates I'm pushing some careless, "let the chips fall where they may" approach. 2. https://twitter.com/PessimistsArc https://twitter.com/PessimistsArc
