- mikeyouse 3y agoFree in this context (and in health care discussions) obviously just means free at the point-of-use. It's so odd that people continue to pretend not to understand that to make some other point.
- robert_foss 3y agoRoads don't build themselves, water treatment doesn't happen by itself. What is society for if not to serve the common needs of the people?
- jwilber 3y agoHow exactly do you think taxes are used?
- eatsyourtacos 3y agoDoes it cost you anything to call the police or the fire department? No- it's free to use. You know what it means; stop trying to muddy the waters with disingenuous arguments.
- kube-system 3y agoYes, "free at the point of use" is what was meant, but for the record, emergency services are not universally free in the US. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_response_fee https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_response_fee
- Sohcahtoa82 3y agoThis ridiculous talking point isn't the "gotcha" you think it is, and quite frankly, it's getting exhausting to see it all the time. Yes, we know, it's not "free" and is paid for by taxes. Likely even increased taxes. Everyone knows this. And we don't have a problem with it.
