I wonder whether this could be something of a missed opportunity for the Ukrainian armed forces. Reports of public support in Russia for the war varies between surveys, but it's clearly not 100%. It's not inconceivable therefore that the director of the Uralvagonzavod armaments company might actually want to help the Ukrainian who phoned, especially if additional orders to replace the captured tanks are increasing the company's revenue.
By laughing and hanging up, this Kochevnik has probably burnt any good will (be that from empathy, support or plain non-partisan professionalism on the part of the Uralvagonzavod company), got the director who helped him into trouble with the Russian authorities and prematurely ended 'plausible deniability' for further assistance for other Ukrainians in the future. Was the press coverage really worth that for the Ukrainians?
- arein3 3y agoI beleive this is a naive take. The guys at Uralvagonzavod were thinking they speak with russian troops.
- seabass-labrax 3y agoThat's easily possible, but wouldn't it still be in the Ukrainians' interest to let Uralvagonzavod think that for as long as possible whilst obtaining manuals, diagrams and other assistance? I certainly wouldn't be tipping-off the press about my tactics for misleading Russian armaments suppliers if I was a Ukrainian.
- arein3 3y agoI have no idea if this is true, but I suppose it's not rocket science and the mechanics in the knows can service them. It's not some valuable information you can obtain from them. And if it's some manuals they are after, they could buy them from someone working there if they are not secret, but if they are secret then they will not send them to a random person on whatsapp.
