Immediate feedback: it's really hard to time jumps due to the ball bouncing along on the ground automatically. If I tap the screen in the middle of an auto-jump, the ball then has to fall down to the floor before my jump action is triggered.
Makes it feel as if there's always a lag between when I tap the screen and when the jump occurs. Sometimes it doesn't jump at all. Lag is a major problem in a reflex game like this.
You should consider always jumping immediately, even if the ball is already in the air due to an auto-jump (physics be damned). Or having the ball roll on the floor rather than jump along.
- alanfalcon 15y agoThanks a lot, that's great feedback. I've ha trouble getting people to give me honest opinions like those because most people who will give me any opinion just lie to me because they don't want to hurt me, even though I (try to) explain that if they're not honest then they only hurt my chances for success.
- pkamb 15y agoI also think an 'Angry-Birds-like' big grid of levels would be more addicting than the current high-score based gameplay mechanic. High scores don't do much for me. Finishing a really hard level definitely does. Give us finite levels to beat and master, not infinite scrolling.
- alanfalcon 15y agoI learned my lesson about trying to be too cute with my interface, for sure. I guess it's never too late to go back and change Beat Boxes in addition to ensuring my next game adheres to the de facto standards set by games like Angry Birds.
- pfedor 15y agoI just played and I can second that a hundred percent. It's very pronounced and a big detriment to the experience. Otherwise the game is very engaging.
- alanfalcon 15y agoThanks for the confirmation. Would a visual signal that you have tapped and that the ball is "primed" for a high bounce be helpful? Or is that still not really enough?
- pfedor 15y agoSorry, it's hard to predict. I am guessing that yes, it would probably help.
- alanfalcon 15y agoThank you! I'll have some new testers try it out, and ask them some specific questions about it.
