LLM chatbots forget like that all the time, on purpose. It's not that we couldn't give them some sort of persistent memory, we could in a dozen different ways. But we might not like what they would quickly turn into if talking continuously with 1000s of people on the internet. For that matter, we probably wouldn't like what a human turned into either, if they were capable of talking continuously with 1000s of random people on the internet and incorporating it all into their mind.
