I still haven't figured out why a some Indians support Russia in the invasion and genocide of Ukraine.
Am I missing some part of history? Or it's just resentment towards the West, and Ukrainians genocide would be a "failure of the west"?
- catlover76 3y agoIt may be due to a dynamic of right-wing leaders feeling that they are in the same clique against modern liberal secularism.
- kelipso 3y agoImagine that Laos gets attacked by Thailand and bunch of nearby countries freak out and ask you to sacrifice a good chunk of your GDP to show you care.
- libertine 3y agoOne thing is to not care, other thing is to go out of your way to help Russia invade Ukraine.
- bilbyx 3y agoIf you seek the truth, you will find it. In fact, a majority of people in this world are on the side of the Russians, despite what you were led to believe. A good starting point is to listen to Professor John Mearsheimer.
- catlover76 3y ago1) "a majority of people in this world" don't give a fuck, factually speaking; 2) if they did, that still wouldn't be an independent reason to think that's correct--you may not have noticed, but most people are selfish, stupid, and ignorant; 3) "despite what you were led to believe." -- it was never a claim of anyone pro-Ukraine that the majority of people in the world are on their side. Nor should it be. The opinion of the majority does not determine what is right.
- libertine 3y agoWhy do you claim the "majority of people" support the genocide of Ukraine? What have Ukrainians done to more than 5 billion people to support wiping out of Ukraine? If it was the majority, I shouldn't need to seek it, it would be out there to see.

- Const-me 3y ago> Why is Russia the top Ukrainian refugee destination? UN officials think Poland is the top destination: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_refugee_crisis_(2022%E2%80%93present)#Number_of_refugees https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_refugee_crisis_(2022... > Why is Russia giving full citizenship to Ukrainians? They want to annex Ukraine, of course they’re giving their citizenship. They do it in all occupied territories: DNR/LNR, Crimea, Abkhazia (90% took it), South Ossetia (95% took it). > Why hasn't Russia banned anything Ukrainian? They have even banned the colors of the Ukrainian flag: https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2023/jun/5/russia-muzzles-public-displays-of-blue-and-yellow-/ https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2023/jun/5/russia-muzzl...

- libertine 3y ago> Those accepting citizenship probably understand the situation better than we do, and aren't doing it to self-genocide. When Russia denies basic services to those who don't have Russian passports, it's either take it or become a second class citizen, like Russia did in Ukraine: https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-withholds-meds-ukrainians-who-refuse-russian-passport-2023-7 https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-withholds-meds-ukrain... It's a horrible position to be forced to take a passport you don't want in order to survive - in your own home. It's an atrocious crime against humanity, and a blatant attempt to dilute those who aren't Russians into forced Russian citizens. But if you want an even more evil attempt to destroy Ukraine national identity in occupied territory is what Russia is doing by forcing schools to teach a distorted event about the Russian invasion and indoctrinate children: https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2023/09/ukraine-russia-new-history-textbook-is-a-blatant-attempt-to-unlawfully-indoctrinate-school-children-in-russia-and-russian-occupied-ukrainian-territories/ https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2023/09/ukraine-russi... Or this is also propaganda?
- gopher_space 3y agoUSSR was seen in a positive light vs the US and Modi appreciates Putin for the same reasons Trump does. It’s resentment and nationalism.
