Tell HN: Workday and SAP Success Factors are Satan's work
Applying for a job these days has become a nightmare. We link off to websites like Workday, where we have 10 different accounts to our name...the autofill resume option is an absolute joke...I feel discouraged to apply for a job every time I land on one of these sites. How are their product managers getting away with this nonsense.
Am I the only one who gets this feeling?
Anyhoo, I've had enough of this and I'm currently sitting here with a Figma file open ready to design a new version of an ATS - one that is extremely streamlined. Optimise the whole process of applying for jobs and clean up dashboard for HR staff so they can actually hire the right people.
I'd love to collaborate with someone and really overtake these saas companies who have been milking it for way too long with their barely workable products.
I come from a product management/marketing background so if anyone wants to create something cool with me and collaborate on this project, feel free to shoot me an email: gustafstrom3@gmail.com
- catlover76 3y agoI have also been declining to apply to any jobs that require me to create a unique account of any kind, or otherwise involve similar tedium. Maybe those systems are designed to keep those of us who don't want the job enough out? However, I think I'm going to have to of course revise my approach pretty soon and submit to the reality of having to deal with that crap.
- eurocombinator 3y agoI don't think it's made for us to be kept from applying, I just think the flow is horrible and nobody bats an eye cause it's working and there's nothing else out there...I mean people are slowly catching on now. If you're technical, I'm down to streamline this if you are. When I created the post I had an idea...it's turned into a full-blown platform now. Let me know if you're down!
- catlover76 3y agoI am already bogged down with a bunch of side projects/hustles, unfortunately :/ I think you should note, btw, it's not like good systems don't exist; Greenhouse, Ashby, Lever being (seemingly) the best. If a company is still using Workday or some other such legacy thing, it's because they want to or because the inertia is too powerful, and I'm not sure what could be built to convince them to switch.
- otteromkram 3y agoGreenhouse, BambooHR, and iCMS do a pretty good job of parsing and keeping the application process simple. You could spend time checking out Workday's dev API or just refine your resume even further. The biggest issues I've had with Workday are employment dates, commas/hyphens in job titles and school names, and bulletpoint lists.
- eurocombinator 3y agoIt's true that they keep the application process simple but nonetheless, it's always gonna be a pain in the ass since it's "the norm" and the choices out there are slim. These ATS systems are given in bundles, so I'm guessing performance isn't what drives them. I actually had a quick chat with a friend today who works in HR and they use SAP...the amount of stuff that could be optimised is insane. I've heard some horror stories about BambooHR as well. Since I'm not from a technical background, it's a bit hard for me to dive into Workday's dev API but as I mentioned in the post, if someone technical is open to working on a new ATS Saas, I'm down. I'm almost done creating the design of the platform itself and have figured out a way to streamline it all.
