I used to measure waists in the Air Force but apparently, according to this article, in the Navy way, placing the tape just above the iliac crest. And sometimes across the belly button, depending on the order of the day; it felt like the least useful metric. Measuring capabilities seems better, like can this person bring this acting-injured person the length of the gym, in whatever manner they choose as long as it doesn't actually injure the other person? Pushups and situps are easy to count, though, and do indicate some degree of function. I did appreciate that sixty percent of the fitness score came from the run.
