Certainly, the relationship between event-driven architectures (EDA) and serverless can be seen from different perspectives. In our case, they complement each other pretty well. We utilize integration events extensively to facilitate communication across micro-services, and even within a single service, we mostly handle processes asynchronously via events.
It's worth noting my employer serves local, state, and federal government customers. We will never achieve the scale of tech giants like Netflix or Facebook, and that’s ok, it’s still a great market. Our serverless approach has proven to be cost-effective since we have spotty load and will never have millions of users. In fact, our transition to serverless has resulted in reduced operational expenses compared to our previous containerized solutions. Moreover, given our team's limited experience with cloud operations, the convenience of allowing AWS to manage a majority of the operational work has been helpful (I don’t get many 24x7 calls and can sleep well at night).
