I’m going to re:Invent for my second year and am excited to go again. I think https://conferenceparties.com/reinvent2023/ https://conferenceparties.com/reinvent2023/ is a great resource too for night events, maps, and guides.
I’m very interested in event driven architectures and serverless development. If you are too, maybe we will run into eachother. I currently work in the GovTech space.
- steveBK123 3y agoNot to nitpick but isn't event driven and serverless pretty orthogonal? That is - if you have enough events to bother to be event driven, then you also have enough steady state utilization that serverless isn't going to save you any money over having some dedicated compute?
- cebert 3y agoCertainly, the relationship between event-driven architectures (EDA) and serverless can be seen from different perspectives. In our case, they complement each other pretty well. We utilize integration events extensively to facilitate communication across micro-services, and even within a single service, we mostly handle processes asynchronously via events. It's worth noting my employer serves local, state, and federal government customers. We will never achieve the scale of tech giants like Netflix or Facebook, and that’s ok, it’s still a great market. Our serverless approach has proven to be cost-effective since we have spotty load and will never have millions of users. In fact, our transition to serverless has resulted in reduced operational expenses compared to our previous containerized solutions. Moreover, given our team's limited experience with cloud operations, the convenience of allowing AWS to manage a majority of the operational work has been helpful (I don’t get many 24x7 calls and can sleep well at night).
