- dkjaudyeqooe 3y agoThat's stating the intended audience, otherwise you might come across as condescending or rude, since it's really obvious to any native speaker.
- bmer 3y agoI'm a native speaker, and it's far from obvious to me. Whether it is "hostile/divisive" depends upon tone, something which is utterly lacking through this medium. For what it's worth, when I first read the comment under discussion, I thought it was a humorous jab at the fact that software dev salaries tend to be quite high. That's about it.
- dkjaudyeqooe 3y agoWhich country? It might be more US centric but I think it's well understood in the core anglosphere. That particular construction unambiguously has the speaker referring to 'the other' and although that can be innocuous, it's very often used by people being divisive or offensive. So any use of it at all can end up making people question the intentions of the speaker.
