It may take less greenhouse gas emissions, but is it good food and good for the human digestive system?
- shortcake27 3y agoConsumer Freedom is a conspiracy theorist website with no qualifications and a strong agenda against veganism. The article attempts to instil fear by listing off chemicals with alternative uses and irrelevant “dangers”, and then hits you with this: > Are the chemicals in fake meat harmful? Probably not. So even they admit that their claims about the health impacts of plant-based alternatives are completely unsubstantiated and baseless. You know what actually is harmful according to the WHO (an organisation who actually has qualifications assessing the health impacts of foods)? Red meat, which is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen. Of course, there’s no mention of that on Consumer Freedom because it doesn’t fit the agenda. https://www.who.int/news-room/questions-and-answers/item/cancer-carcinogenicity-of-the-consumption-of-red-meat-and-processed-meat https://www.who.int/news-room/questions-and-answers/item/can... And what does the WHO say about plant based meats? TLDR is that we need more information, but as always, minimising intake of processed foods is a generally a good call. https://www.who.int/europe/news/item/22-12-2021-new-who-factsheet-how-can-we-tell-if-plant-based-products-are-healthy https://www.who.int/europe/news/item/22-12-2021-new-who-fact...
